The Kingdom Club: First Study Night Of Fall Semester

Written By: Zoe Aarts

As both the new and returning students of Saint Martin’s University settle into campus life after a relaxing summer, many campus activities and clubs are beginning to flourish once again.
One of the many clubs starting back up is the Kingdom Club. A weekly Bible Study group that hosts studies and various engaging group activities to help foster a joyful and thoughtful Christ-centered community.
“Our mission is for everyone to have a stronger relationship with Christ,” said Kingdom Club Representative Thomas Hega.

So, whether someone comes from a religious background, is studying the Bible for the first time, or is simply just curious, they are always welcome to become part of the Kingdom Club community.

After their general information meeting last week, the Kingdom Club is ready to start welcoming back current members and offering a welcoming environment for any potential brand-new members or visitors. Held in Spangler Hall’s Conference Room, the Kingdom Club began its first official Bible Study meeting of the Fall Semester on Wednesday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Upon entering the conference room, the peaceful melody of worship music sets the mood for the Kingdom Club’s first study. Many members are sitting around the table, which is surrounded by over a dozen chairs. As more members began to arrive at the study, friendly waves and smiles were exchanged. An equally kind welcome was extended to
both returning members and newcomers.

Then, when the worship music in the background was brought to a pause, the study commenced. That night’s speaker, Mason Quiñones, a recent Saint Martin’s University graduate, kicks the study off with an introduction and simple icebreaker question: What is an interesting or useless talent you have?

The answers to that simple icebreaker were nothing less than entertaining, even including a fair number of displays of double-jointedness. After the humorous stories of odd talents were shared, the group took a moment to pray before diving into the first passage of the night, John 1:1-5. The focus of this passage and of the study that night was “Jesus’s divinity,” Mason said.
Many other passages about Jesus’s divine nature were also read, such as John 8:58 or Hebrews 1.

Many wise words were shared by Mason and also by the other members of the club. Bible verses were read and discussed with intentionality and a willingness to learn from the text.

After having a chance for the group to share any thoughts or questions concerning the study, Kingdom Club President Zarina Miller brings the night to a close by saying a final prayer. This concluded the first official Kingdom Club Bible Study of this Fall Semester.

Amongst the busy life of the start of a new semester at Saint Martin’s University, the Kingdom Club is a welcoming group and the perfect opportunity for a night of peace and spiritual growth. Their meetings are a great time for a moment of clarity and also rest from the chaos of college life. With a Christ-centered goal and attitude, the Kingdom Club studies are truly a refreshing experience for any student interested in a wonderful spiritual learning experience and a kind community.
