Go loco for Boka: A taste of the islands

Boka

Boka Island Fusion is a quaint little food truck usually found just outside of downtown Olympia. The truck remains fairly stationary, having claimed its own permanent spot. Boka Island Fusion creates a culinary mix of authentic island dishes and flavors from the Philippines, Hawaii, Mariana Islands, to name a few. With dishes like Hawaiian Mochiko Chicken, Si Sig, and one of their best-known dishes, the Boka Taco plate, the food truck does not let the small space hold it back from delivering flavorful food. The food can also pack quite the spicy punch, which is great for food lovers that want a burn to their meals.

Boka Island Fusion was started by two long-time friends, Lorenzo Camacho and Patrick Laguana. Their parents were friends, which led the two of them to visit each other regularly from a young age and grow up together. In and out of contact, they initially went thier separate ways for college and careers until Camacho came up with the idea to start up a food truck after he graduated college and begin a personal business. He reunited with Laguana, offering him a position as a business partner, and after seeing how thought through the plans of the food truck were, Laguana accepted.

In the summer of 2015, the food truck was officially opened, as the duo worked hard together and capitalized on popular dishes from the various islands. They use strong flavors including coconut, lime, and a variety of spices to optimize individual and unique tastes.

The food truck has a wide variety of options on the menu but can certainly be quick to sell out of specific dishes, so it is best to arrive earlier in the day if possible. The food truck’s hours are split into two time shifts on weekdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and then again from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Boka also offers gluten free options for those that may have dietary problems, as well as a few vegetarian dishes.

This food truck is also affordable, with most dishes priced at $10 or less. Few dishes go over $10, and none reach $15. With an affordable variety of options, with dishes suited to an array of dietary needs, Boka places itself as a well-rounded food truck that goes above and beyond.

The workers are friendly, offering help and good service to the best of their abilities which leave you feeling comfortable and welcome at the food truck. Customers have the option to dine in or take their food to go, since the food truck is right in front of the restaurant the Northwest Beerwerks, which allows customers from Boka to sit at one of their tables with your food. And you won’t have to be waiting long for your food to arrive either as the service is prompt and quick.

For those with an adventurous taste palette and who don’t shy away from a bit of heat, Boka Island Fusion is well-worth trying out. The newer food truck offers great flavors and combinations, lots of options to pick from, and affordable prices that will keep you from breaking the bank. If you want a taste of the islands, but without the hassle of traveling to them directly, Boka Island Fusion might just be the restaurant for you. Boka Island Fusion is located at: 420 Steele St. SE, Olympia and can be reached at (360) 951-584. Their hours are 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on weekends.
